Since the beginning of the year, Airbnb has collected and remitted more than $1 million in bed tax revenue in five Tampa Bay area counties.

Leading the way is Pinellas County with $774,500 in tourist development taxes, also known as the bed tax. Pinellas was followed by Polk County with $192,000, whose agreement with Airbnb took effect Feb. 1.

Hillsborough County, whose bed tax agreement with Airbnb also took effect on Feb. 1, has $182,000 collected so far this year. Bed tax revenues for Hillsborough broke $3 million a month for three consecutive months during the first quarter of 2017, according to Visit Tampa Bay. March reflected $3.59 million in bed tax collections, bringing tourism revenue in the county to $10.1 million for the first three months of the calendar year.
